Guten Abend!

This Tuesday evening A1 German class is a live, in-person class in Milwaukee, WI!

Here's the short description of this class:

  • We'll meet for a 12-week session from mid-January to the end of April, 2026.
    • Class begins January 20th and we meet Tuesdays through February 24th, then we take one week off, and resume and meet from March 10 to April 14th.
  • Each week we'll meet for 1.5 hours (but maybe 1.75 hours if we need it).
  • We'll meet in a classroom in Wauwatosa, just west of Milwaukee, WI.
  • You'll receive a login to the Klassenbuch here in the website, and each week you'll receive an email with the homework in it, and any digital documents I provide for the class.
  • This class is a cohort model, and we'll simply continue working through the chapters together and progressing in German for as long as you like. I've worked with some clients from the very beginning up through the B1 level and even beyond.

If the weather is bad or if I'm sick, we'll select an appropriate option for that class, for example:

  • We'll stay home and have a class online using my online classroom in Brave Talk (https://talk.brave.com - you can try it yourself and it works on any device).
  • You can still get together in the classroom and use the time for studying together.
  • I might replace a class with a video or a worksheet activity.
  • If I can, I'd find a substitute teacher.

Here's the long description of this class:

Who is this A1 class right for?

It's right for you if... It's likely not right for you if...
  • you are still new to German or are returning to german learning and want to start pretty much at the beginning.
  • you've tried other classes and methods and are simply frustrated.
  • an in-person class on Tuesday evenings works for you.
  • you want to get your questions answered!
  • you want to join a fantastic group of people who work well together.
  • you think an app or a computer program is the end-all, be-all.
  • you've learned a lot of the A1 level, as in at least half or more of an A1 book, and you want to move on.
  • you've already got a lot of plans for Tuesdays and would miss a lot of the classes.

The Schedule:

This class runs in trimesters. The overall scope of that looks like this:

January - April (Trimester 1) May - August (Trimester 2) September - December (Trimester 3)
We begin class in mid-January, meet for 6 weeks, have 1 week off, and then meet for another 6 weeks. We have usually have 1 week off before Trimester 2 starts. We begin class in May, meet for 6 weeks, have 1 week off, meet for another 6 weeks, and then in August and the beginning of September you have a break, you can learn extra vocabulary words, or you can do additional exercises. We begin this trimester in mid-September and meet for 6 weeks. We have 1 week off.  Then we have 5 more classes, however we won't meet the week of Thanksgiving, and in December everyone has access to the Adventskalender for the year, which is essentially 25 days of practicing one German grammar topic.

We'll meet on Tuesday evenings from 6 pm to 7.30 pm, with a caveat that we might meet for an additional 15 minutes if we need it.

The dates for Trimester 1, 2026 are (subject to small changes):

  • January 20
  • January 27
  • February 3
  • February 10
  • February 17
  • February 24
  • (On March 3 we'll have a break.)
  • March 10
  • March 17
  • March 24
  • March 31
  • April 7
  • April 14

And then we'll begin Trimester 2 in May.

When you register for this term, you will automatically receive electronic calendar events via email. Future trimester dates will be made available as we progress through the year. Your tuition carries over until the beginning of the next trimester, so you have continuous access to the Klassenbuch.

What to Expect:

A live class with Frau Warner and other clients in a classroom in Wauwatosa, WI. We'll work together on reading, writing, listening to, and speaking German; you'll learn German vocabulary and German grammar. We work through 1-2 chapters per trimester, so it's enough to be a good challenge without overwhelming you. We speak as much German as possible in-class, and dialect is welcome.

Each week I'll add the homework and any digital documents to your Klassenbuch (class register) and you'll automatically receive an email via the website.

Who else is in this class?

Your fellow German learners are also deeply interested in learning German either as a hobby or for work, while others travel in, live in, or want to live in a German-speaking country. Everyone is interested in the same thing: speaking German.

Which materials will we use?

We will use a combination of these:

  1. Really German Books: We use German language learning books from Germany. (Books are not included in your tuition. Frau Warner will have the books available for purchase on the first evening of class; the price will be approximately $80 plus applicable sales tax.)
  2. Materials made by Frau Warner.
  3. Real-life materials from German-language websites, brochures, and advertisements, too.
  4. There are NO grades, no tests (except for proficiency test prep), and no finals. (I promise.)

How much homework will I have each week?

You'll find out real quick that you have a somewhat flexible amount of homework each week. Some of it is required and some of it is optional--think "low, medium, high." That way you can adjust when life gets stressful, as well as when things are calm.

So who are you, Frau Warner?

Hallo, ich heiße Warner, Nicole Warner!Frau Nicole Warner

I first learned German when I was in my early 20’s. I had tried taking German in college and it was a DISASTER. I was constantly worried about the grade, the book we used was ridiculously confusing, and my teacher just couldn’t explain the concepts clearly.

Then in 2003 I moved to Germany and took a different kind of German course, one without a final grade, with books for learning German (not textbooks). I learned to speak German so well that when I speak German with native speakers, they think that I'm German. I'm not, although I do love a good bike commute. I now speak German at a near-native level and I've received the Zertifikat C2, the highest level of German speaking certification available. I’ve been teaching German in-person and online since 2010. I’m also certified to teach German as a Foreign Language and I teach it the way I was taught to speak it.
