How to Understand the 4 Cases in German

This video course is currently open only to residents of the United States and Canada. Once you have registered, Frau Warner will check that you are in the US or Canada and manually approve it. Please allow up to 24 hours for this, longer on the weekends.

The four cases is a big, important topic for German learners and as such, I've developed an overview of the 4 cases which works really well for clients. It gives people a framework of how the four cases work together and it prevents people from getting lost in the details. This is especially helpful for perfectionists! A lot of my clients work well when they first understand the framework and then dive into the specifics of a topic, so they start with the overview, then they can "zoom in" and "zoom back out" again.

My clients find this 4-cases framework extremely helpful (and sometimes even a relief), so I decided to see if you'd like a video lesson on it, covering:

  • the names of the 4 cases,
  • how they are used, when, and why,
    • including the logic of der/die/das/die changing to den/die/das/die and of course dem/der/dem/den
  • and a couple of analogies to help you compare the 4 cases to other things you already know (like cooking and using tools).

The only supplies you'll need are

  1. four sheets of paper OR to print out the accompanying PDF and
  2. a writing utensil.

You are welcome to comment and ask questions! Frau Warner reads every comment and responds personally to questions.

This video course is for German learners of all levels who need help understanding how the 4 cases work together as one system. This video course is not for people who are already fluent in German.
