Learning German should be enjoyable.

But you've also probably said something like:

  • I love German, but I don't have time for a class.
  • The teacher goes too fast and I need more time to learn it.
  • I looked around online, but I don't know what I should read.
  • I forgot all my German so I have to start again...again.

The amount of free videos on German and websites you can visit each week is overwhelming. How do you really know if it's meant for your level of German? Will it really meet you where you are?

I've heard all of these things so often, from people just like you! People who don't have time to take lessons, they live too far away to attend a class, need a flexible schedule, or they just want solid, reliable materials and a place to ask questions so they can study German on their own.

Introducing the GermanWithNicole Klub!

Klub Email Header

The Klub is an online resource and library of activities made personally by me, Nicole Warner, to help people like you, who want reliable materials (including answer keys) they can use to learn German on their own schedule and to get their questions answered.

All the activities and materials are for German learners at the A1 and A2 levels (beginner and elementary levels). You can log in 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and access all the materials that have been published.

I make all the worksheets myself and I check out the resources before I recommend them to you. That way you can enjoy the German you're learning and avoid feeling overwhelmed and frustrated.

And I will answer your questions personally!

(Ach ja, If you've been here for a while and you already know you want to join the Klub, click here.)

Hallo, ich bin Nicole Warner!

You'll see my comments in the Klub under the username "FrauWarner." I know how hard it is to learn German because I once learned it, too. I'm now a fluent German speaker and I have been since I moved to Germany in 2003. After five years I decided to move back to the US and I've been back here since 2008. I've talked with a lot of people here and I discovered that people are not getting the resources and the practice they need to really speak German well.

How well do I speak German?

The most important thing to know here is: When I speak German with native speakers, they think that I'm German. I'm not. (Well, not legally anyway.) But I speak German at a near-native level. I can prove it, too: I took the hardest German test you can take. My average score was 84%, making me the proud recipient of the highest level of German language certification possible, the Zertifikat C2.

NicoleWarnerHeadshot eyes5x5I also:

  • love order and organization
  • ride my (German) bike
  • like to drive fast
  • enjoy Fußball

  • use German silverware
  • drink out of German wine glasses
  • bake German cakes
  • speak German with my cat

Speaking German isn't the same thing as teaching it, though.

That's why I got certified to teach it and the Goethe-Institute granted me their German teaching certification DaF Unterrichten in 2018.

I actually started teaching German in 2010 and since then I've taught thousands of hours of German. And that's above and beyond all the teaching I used to do when I lived in Germany and I taught private music and English lessons and I taught a lot.

Teaching is what I do.

 Here's what one client says:

"Nicole is a fantastic teacher! She is organized, knowledgeable, supportive and patient. I am a classical singer and voice teacher with specific goals to move to Germany and I have found that Nicole has tailored each lesson to achieve the goals that I have. Nicole provides the grammar lesson with the add-on's of culture, music, the do's and don't's in the German culture and makes the language and lessons relevant! She also incorporates different methods of learning styles and different learning tools, adjusting to my learning style. And to add to it all, she makes it FUN! I am excited and inspired after every lesson, despite the challenges of learning a second language.

Brava Nicole! I am very excited to continue working with you!"

Haben Sie noch Fragen?  Do you still have questions?

Here are some helpful answers to questions about the Klub.

  • How do I know if the Klub is the right level for me?

If you are working on German topics like:

    • using two verbs in a sentence (and the one gets kicked to the end)
    • the best way for you to learn vocabulary
    • trennbare Verben (separable verbs)
    • the Perfekt (present perfect)
    • Ordinalzahlen (ordinal numbers) z.B. Ich habe Geburtstag am fünften Februar.
    • Relativpronomen (relative pronouns) z.B. Das ist der Nachbarn, den ich gestern zum ersten Mal getroffen habe.
    • Adjektivendungen (adjective endings) z.B. Unsere nette Nachbarin hat ein neues und schnelles Auto gekauft.
    • Dativpronomen z.B. Ich gebe ihnen die Zeitungen.

then the Klub is the right level for you.

  • What kinds of activities will there be?

There will be activities like: word searches, crossword puzzles, easy-to-understands stories, games, vocabulary sets, listening, writing, and more. But don't expect these to be like everything else you've ever done, because they're made by me specifically for you. AND you will get to make requests!

  • What supplies will I need besides my computer?

Gute Frage! (Good question!) You'll need a decent internet connection, but if you're here now you probably have one. You'll also need to download PDFs and either load them onto your iPad/tablet (with the appropriate app for writing on PDFs) or to print them out. A writing utensil is vital, and other than that, you should be set!

  • I've tried learning German before. Is it worth trying again?

Ja, natürlich! If you tried learning German before and it didn't work out well, consider that maybe you weren't the problem. Maybe the class you took covered too much in a short period of time or it didn't present the materials in a way that's appropriate for the way you learn. I'll be publishing activities appropriate for many different ways of learning. You might even discover a new one!

  • What does "A1 level" and "A2 level" mean?

These are designations set by the European Union to indicate the beginning (A1) and elementary (A2) stages of learning a foreign language. If you are at the A1 level, then you can ask and answer basic questions, introduce yourself and talk about where you live and things you do/have done. Native speakers still speak too quickly for you. At the A2 level, you can express yourself a bit more and can communicate with most people about most topics, and you'd be able to write a solid email at work or nice birthday card greeting, for example. If you'd like to read more about all the levels, click here to read the Wikipedia summary.

  • I don't have a lot of time. How much time will the activities take?

Because there will be only one activity per week, you'll easily be able to accomplish the activity. You get to work at your pace. If you don't have a lot of time, then do the exercise in the time you have. If you want to spend more time on it, you'll also be able to read a few suggestions on how to do so.

  • Will you be adding more features in the future?

Yes, I will add more features in the future and you get to help decide what they will be. I'll post either a poll or a questionnaire.

  • I have specific questions, can you answer them?

Yes, I can and I will! Each activity is published in an article (with the directions, of course) and you can write your question in the comment section. I'll be in the Klub several days a week, but I wouldn't be surprised if another Mitglied answers your question. Wir lernen zusammen! (We'll learn together!)

  • Can members make activity requests?

Yes, you can. I'd be delighted if you were to ask for a specific activity, because I want to help you learn German.

  • Can I try it for a month and see if I like it?

Yes, you can. And if you do like it and want to stay around longer, you can switch to a yearly membership at a pro-rated amount. Das ist gut!

  • What if I try it but I don't like it?

Of course I would be very sad to see you go. But if the Klub isn't right for you, you can simply cancel your membership and you pay no more. (There are no refunds because you have immediate access to the entire learning library. But if you decide it's not for you, then you can cancel and pay no more.)

I can't decide if I should join, can you spell it out for me?

Ja, the Klub is for you if any of these apply:

Nein, the Klub is not for you if:

  • you know a little German already
  • you want to spend a little bit of time on German each week
  • you don't have time for a class or lessons
  • or your German class isn't enough and you want more
  • you live too far away from where German classes are taking place
  • you enjoy learning German and finding out new things about Germany, Switzerland and Austria
  • you are interested in joining other German learners for a bit of German language fun!
  • you are an absolute beginner
  • you want to spend hours and hours each week working on German
  • you are looking for deep-dive information on German grammar (Zzz...)
  • you're elbow-deep in another German class
  • you've already reached a high intermediate level (B1 & up)
  • you'd prefer to explore German on your own.
