As part of the celebrations for my 5th anniversary, I'll be hosting a free online Stammtisch on Friday, June 29th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Central time. The Stammtisch event is free, however you must register for it.
Stammtisch is a popular way for folks in the US (and other countries) to gather to practice speaking German in a casual, social atmosphere. If this concept is new to you, read on. Or simply click the button to register for the event.
What is a "Stammtisch"?
In Gemany a Stammtisch is a regular gathering of a group of people to discuss a certain topic. They meet weekly at the same bar/pub, at the same table, with the same group of people. In the US we've adapted this so that we can get together and speak German regularly and they often take place once a month.
Why join us on June 29th?
It's a free way to practice your German!
You are welcome at this Stammtisch if you are:
- totally new to German
- still learning the basics of German
- an advanced speaker of German
- a native speaker and enjoy meeting German learners
- interested in checking out a Stammtisch!
I (Nicole!) will be hosting the Stammtisch and I'll be happy to answer questions, provide help, and explain difficult words that come up. Remember this is about practicing speaking--in German practicing is called "üben." And as the Germans say: Üben macht den Meister! Practice makes mastery!
How does it work?
In your registration confirmation email you'll receive a link to the online meeting room we'll be using for this Stammtisch. At the event time, follow the instructions in the email and we'll all meet in the online meeting room. Have your headset/earbuds plugged in and ready-to-go and perhaps a beverage. We'll meet for 90 minutes, chat in German and about German, and you'll meet some new folks!
What if I need some help with my speaking?
I'll be there in the meeting space and I will help you! Several of my clients will be there; my clients are generous, kind people and they will be happy to help, too. Remember this is about practicing speaking and you are welcome to practice what you know.
If you're lucky, my cat will stop by. He likes to greet people in their lessons. Es macht viel Spaß. Hier ist Connor, als er noch klein war:
Stammtisch, eine Katze und neue Leute. Besser wird's nicht!
